Child who nearly drowned going to pull through

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A child who nearly drowned in a Lafayette bath tub is recovering Thursday and should be released from the hospital soon.

Emergency crews responded to the incident on Chaffee Court in Lafayette late Tuesday morning.

Police said the baby’s mother called 911 after her boyfriend found her 10-month-old daughter unconscious in the tub. The baby was bathing with another child, possibly a sibling, when it happened.

Officials said the mother performed CPR until the girl regained consciousness. She was taken to an area hospital before she was flown to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

According to Lafayette police, the baby is now off a ventilator and eating on her own.

The Department of Child Services and Lafayette police are investigating the incident as a potential child neglect case.
