Safe summer driving!

Millions of American drivers hitting the road this Memorial Day are not “tire smart” and are at higher risk of a tire problem due to poor maintenance. Tire problems due to under inflation or improper maintenance can put a quick end to summer road trips. According to AAA, nearly 14% of all calls last Memorial Day weekend were related to flat tires.

In preparation for summer travel and National Tire Safety Week (May 29-June 4), RMA is urging drivers to Be Tire Smart and to take advantage of the easy steps that keep tires properly maintained and that only takes a few minutes. Under inflated tires waste gas, wears tires out quicker, and puts drivers at risk.

Steve Bredemann, Lead Technician, Firestone Complete Auto Care, discusses the importance of properly inflated tires and demonstrates:

• Where to find the correct inflation pressure on your vehicle

• Importance of checking tires when they are cold or haven’t been driven on for at least three hours

• Penny Test to check tire tread depth

• Inspect tread for damage – punctures, cuts, bulges

Bridgestone Retail Operations owns and operates 2,200 tire and automotive service centers across the country, under four brand names: Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus and Wheel Works. Steve Bredemann is lead technician at the Fishers, IN Firestone Complete Auto Care.

In 2002, Firestone became the Official Tire of the IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500. In December 2012, a contract extension was announced that will see the Firestone brand remain the exclusive tire for the IndyCar Series through the 2018 season.
