3 teens charged in high school bathroom death

Wilmington, DE. (WISH) – Three high school students were charged in the death of a 16-year-old girl that happened last month in Delaware.

Police said Amy Inita Joyner-Francis died after a fight involving the three other girls in a high school bathroom. Joyner-Francis had a pre-existing heart condition that was triggered by the assault, causing a sudden cardiac incident.

One girl was charged with criminally negligent homicide, which prosecutors said they will try to charge her as an adult.

The other two girls face criminal conspiracy charges.

“At the end of the day, nothing brings Amy back so whatever the charges are, their issue is Amy is never coming home.  If in fact this proves she does have this cardiac issue, here’s the concern: it would not have been triggered had she not been hit in the manner which she was,” Joyner-Francis’ family spokesperson Sherry Dorsey Walker said.

If charged for homicide, the girl could spend up to eight years in prison.
