School bus, car crash on near north side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A school bus and car collided on the near north side of Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to Fall Creek Parkway North Drive and North Meridian Street just before 4 p.m.

Police say a bus of 4th graders from Northern Wells Community Schools near Fort Wayne was heading back from a field trip to the Statehouse when the crash occurred. Forty students, two teachers and the driver were on board, Northern Wells Community Schools Superintendent Scott Mills said

A child on the bus had a bloody nose, according to police. Two people in the car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Police said the car was speeding and the bus driver failed to yield.

The bus will be driven back without passengers.

Parent chaperones in their own vehicles were traveling with the students and will transport some of the kids home. The other students will be taken back on a second bus that was also with the group.
