Child dies in Jackson Co. crash

JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One person was killed in an early Friday morning crash in Jackson County.

Indiana State Police said the fatal crash involved two vehicles on US 31 near County Road 500 South just after 12:30 a.m.

According to ISP,  Brent Sawyer, who was traveling southbound on US 31 when he lost control of his 2006 Jeep Liberty, crossing the center line.

After crossing the center line, Sawyer’s vehicle hit head-on a 2003 Ford Windstar traveling northbound, being driven by Devin Bevers.

A passenger and Bevers’ daughter in the Ford Windstar, three-year-old Tavaya Bevers, sustained fatal injures due to the crash.

The child was then taken to a Seymour hospital where she later passed away.

Both drivers, Bevers and Sawyer, were examined by medical personnel for minor injuries.

Police are awaiting toxicology test results of both drivers.

An investigation into the fatal crash continues.
