Police: Fake social media profile lured man to his death

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Police continue to investigate who killed 21-year-old Cedric Towe in November in the Georgetown section of Chesapeake.

New court documents reveal that someone may have lured Towe to the neighborhood to kill him. On that night, Towe’s father dropped him off just a few blocks away from the home where his son grew up. His father told 10 On Your Side he went there to meet someone.

On November 29, Tow’s family held a vigil where he was murdered. Among the prayers, his family wanted someone, anyone, to come forward. As weeks followed, the Chesapeake police investigation followed all leads.

The family told 10 On Your Side Towe had gone to the street to meet a woman. New court papers appear to match up with that theory; but with a twist.

According to a search warrant, Towe had texted and messaged with a woman who may not exist.

Chesapeake detectives said someone set up a Facebook account on November 25 with the name “Kia Gotti.”

According to documents, this profile messaged Towe for two days and then they exchanged phone numbers. The number came from a Metro PCS phone. From there the two set up a meeting for November 28 in the 40 block of Colonial Way.

Later that night, police found Towe dead with a gunshot wound.
