The Film Yap reviews new releases

If catching a flick is on your agenda this weekend, The Film Yap’s Christopher Lloyd has a rundown of what’s new!

• Warcraft

The track record for movies based on video games isn’t very good, and it isn’t getting any better with the release of “Warcraft,” a great-looking but silly and incoherent fantasy flick about the conflict between humans and orcs.”

• The Conjuring 2

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back as the poltergeist-battling married couple, base (loosely) on real events. Here they’re helping out a British family with a fearsome spook or two.”

• Maggie’s Plan

Greta Gerwig plays a single woman who decides to go the single parent route, until she falls for an older professor (Ethan Hawke) and finds herself suddenly made den mother of an entire family. A smart and insightful romantic dramedy.”

• Now You See Me 2

The Four Horsemen of magician/thieves are back with another amazing heist to pull off before our very eyes, but this time a tech mogul is pulling their strings.”

• Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe

This decidedly partisan documentary alleges that the U.S. Center for Disease Control has covered up evidence of a link between common vaccinations and autism.”

• Time to Choose

Documentary filmmaker Charles Ferguson uses his camera to show the effects of global climate change and possible solutions.”

•Zootopia – Stream It

Second-tier effort from the Disney/Pixar animation empire, better suited for tykes than parents. Judy Hopps is a scrappy bunny with dreams of making it as a copy in the big city. Stream It.”
