Girl honors fallen brother by sending troops care packages

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A local high school student spends her time making care packages to send to troops overseas. She said it’s her way of honoring her fallen brother.

Katlyn Osborn misses her brother Sgt. Kyle Osborn everyday.

“It was a special relationship,” Osborn said.

It’s been nearly four years since he passed after serving in Afghanistan. Now, Osborn is doing what she can to keep his spirit alive.

“He was always doing something for other people,” she said. “And I wanted to give back.”

Osborn collects goods to send to troops overseas. That way, a soldier can open up a little bit of love and care.

“We’re very proud,” said Osborn’s father Creighton Osborn. “The whole family is. She works very hard it.”

Katlyn Osborn started making the care packages three years ago. Since then, her school even got involved.

“She made a move up the ladder,” her dad said. “And she got everybody’s attention. We are very proud of her.”

Katlyn Osborn fills the boxes with candy, snacks and all types of food.

“We’ll put drinks in there,” said Katlyn. “Powdered drinks, monsters, toiletries, sunscreen and all of that stuff.”

She said she plans to send out 15 boxes by the end of the week. Each box goes to a specific soldier.

“Katlyn is doing what he would hope or what he would do for others if she was in the other foot,” Creighton Osborn said.

Katlyn said this is something she will continue to do throughout high school.

“I’m just ready to get them shipped out,” she said.
