41 fire alarms triggered at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – More than 40 fire alarms rang out at Purdue University over the course of 90 minutes Monday evening.

Purdue officials said the issue started with a ruptured water line. The line broke during construction in the afternoon, causing a drop in water pressure. When pressure was restored, the sudden spike tripped the fire alarms.

The university’s Physical Facilities staff said 41 alarms were active between 6:30 and 8 p.m.

The facilities staff, along with the Purdue University Fire Department, were eventually able to reset all of the alarms and return the campus to normal operations.
