Carmel police arrest two suspects in attempted armed robbery

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) – Carmel police say two suspects accused of an attempted armed robbery were arrested Monday evening.

Police said they were sent to the parking lot of 400 block of South Range Line Road around 10:40 p.m.

According to police reports, two white male suspects approached a group of five men who were walking in the 200 block of 2nd Street southwest. The suspects followed the victims east on 3rd Street southwest toward Range Line Road.

When the victims walked in the parking lot in the 400 block of South Range Line Road, the first suspect showed a handgun and demanded money. Both suspects eventually walked away from the victims. No one was hurt during the incident.

After the victims called Carmel Police, the two suspects were spotted near the parking lot in the 200 block of 2nd Street southwest. The suspects then ran away on foot, but officers eventually caught them.

Pavel Grachev, 20 from Carmel, was arrested and faces the following charges:

  • Robbery with a deadly weapon, a level 3 felony
  • Intimidation, a level 5 felony
  • Resisting law enforcement, a class a misdemeanor
  • Carrying a handgun w/o a license, a class a misdemeanor

Caleb Johnson, 18 from Carmel, was also arrested and faces the following charges:

  • Robbery with a deadly weapon, a level 3 felony
  •  Intimidation, a level 5 felony
  • Resisting law enforcement, a class a misdemeanor

Both suspects were transported to the Hamilton County Jail. Grachev’s bond was set at $40,000 and Johnson’s bond was set at $37,500.
