Ex-legislator wants recount in Democratic congressional race

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – A former state legislator is seeking a recount in the Democratic primary for a southwestern Indiana congressional seat.

David Orentlicher told the (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star he believes errors were made in vote counting. He filed a recount request Tuesday with the Indiana Secretary of State’s office.

Preliminary results from the Indiana Secretary of State’s office show Ron Drake leading Orentlicher by about 50 votes out of nearly 60,000 cast in the 8th District Democratic primary.

Drake criticized Orentlicher for moving to Terre Haute to run for Congress after formerly representing an Indianapolis legislative district. Orentlicher questioned Drake living in Washington, D.C., for more than 30 years before moving to his Sullivan County farm last year.

The winner will face Republican Rep. Larry Bucshon in November.
