IN Wesleyan University President, Ed Carpenter discuss college education

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana Wesleyan University’s President David Wright and Verizon IndyCar Series Driver Ed Carpenter discussed the importance of getting a college education Tuesday morning.

The university live streamed an interview on their website where Carpenter talked with Wright about why he decided to go to college and get his Bachelor’s degree at Butler in 2003, even though he already had established his racing career.

“Being a college graduate is one of the things that i’m most proud of. I’m the only IndyCar driver competing right now that does have a college degree and it’s something i’m really proud of because a lot of guys when they start pursuing a career in racing and other athletes, other sports too, they feel like they have to be all in, 100 percent focused. For me I like to tell people that that’s not true, you can do both. i don’t think that I would be running this business and that I would still be a driver even in my 13th year if I didn’t have that foundation and experience of going to college,” Carpenter said.
