7-year-old battling serious disease goes viral singing karaoke

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WISH) – A 7-year-old has become an internet sensation because of her karaoke skills and positive attitude. Her family says they hope she can teach people about the disease she’s fighting.

Audrey Nethery has more than a million followers on Facebook because of her performances.

“I was inspired by Taylor Swift.  Because she has all the passion and spirit, and I just thought I would start singing to maybe put a little passion and spirit in me so I could try and fight off my disease,” Nethery said.

She said she has even met Taylor Swift.

Nethery is fighting Diamond Blackfan Anemia.

“It doesn’t make as much blood cells as most people do.  And it makes me a little bit short but that doesn’t stop me from moving and acting,” Nethery said.

She’s performed at the International Zumba Convention and has even been on the Rachael Ray show.

Her Facebook page was started by her parents to raise awareness for the disease.

“People are really, you know, they’re very concerned about her, and they’re very inspired, knowing what she goes through and then they see her happy and smiling. And it gives them that same passion and inspiration,” her mother Julise, Haise said.

Haise said they also share some of her more difficult moments, including blood transfusions.

“We also want to remind people that she’s battling this illness,” her father Scott Nethery said.

Throughout her difficult journey, Nethery has stayed positive.

“You just have to take a breath and say I can do this and then you go out there and then you just do it,” Nethery said.CNN contributed to this report.
