Pat McAfee teams up with IndyCar drivers to support military foundations

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – When you think of the Indy 500, naturally, you think of IndyCar and the Speedway. But now, one member of the Indianapolis Colts has a big stake in a Dale Coyne Driver.

“A good friend of mine, Conor Daly, and Dale Coyne and I have teamed up for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500,” said Pat McAfee.

Pat McAfee’s three-day old company, shirtsforamerica.com, will be Daly’s main sponsor for the Indy 500.

“This is obviously really cool for us. Our program that we’re in for the season had a gap here at the 500 that we had to fill. It’s been really difficult to put the whole program together. Pat came on board, and it’s a really cool idea, it’s a really cool things that he’s created here,” said Daly.

McAfee just launched shirtsforamerica.com, a company whose sales in T-shirts to benefit two military foundations. The punter says he has a lot of respect for the veteran community, who he’s worked with through the Colts.

“I had a chance to meet these guys and girls who are about to get shipped out. And once you get a chance to hear their stories, and chit chat with these people, and realize that these are men and women who sign a line understanding that they may lose their life trying to protect our country, I couldn’t help but be drawn towards that,” said McAfee.

“We’re very happy with the whole program. Its cause marketing,” said Dale Coyne. “We’ve got three of our four cars – we’ve got the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, we have the Boys Scouts of America, and now to have this for the veterans out there, it’s a fantastic thing for us.”

Daly’s 18 car will be red, white and blue for the 100th running.

“In the past 20 years, there have only been five American winners at the Indy 500.  I think at the 100th running, it’d be great to get six. Especially a kid from Indiana,” said McAfee.

The kid from Indiana will have a chance to make that happen on May 29.

The all-American 18 ShirtsForAmerica.com will make the first appearance on Thursday during the 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. practice session.
