Spencer Pigot crashes during Wednesday practice

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – IndyCar driver and rookie Spencer Pigot crashed during the third day of practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Pigot made impact with the wall while in Turn 1 around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. His car slammed against the wall causing the car to spin. Sparks flew as the car came to a stop. Two of the tires also came off during the crash.

Officials say that Pigot was cleared and released. He told 24-Hour News 8’s Meghan McKeown that he is not sure what happened.

“I feel fine physically. I don’t know what happened. Next thing I know I was facing backwards, so difficult day,” said Pigot. ” Before that we were getting through our plan alright, pretty big set back. We’ll regroup and hopefully come back in the next day or two.”

Pigot’s car was being inspected after the crash.
