Indiana launches sex trafficking awareness campaign ahead of Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Officials in Indiana are once again launching a public awareness campaign to help curb sex trafficking of minors ahead of the Indy 500.

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller and U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler say large sporting events can attract sex trafficking, but it will not be tolerated in the Hoosier state.

“I would ask residents, business owners — specifically hotel owners — not to bury your head in the sand,” Minkler said at a press conference Thursday. “People are paying to have sex with children in Indianapolis. This is not something we can deny, this is not something we can continue to pretend doesn’t happen.”

The Not Buying It campaign will run through the May 29 race.
