First ever ‘Rock-IN-Roar 500’ hits Georgia Street

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – For the first time ever, Indianapolis civic leaders introduced a new event related to the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500.

For the first time, Rock-IN-Roar 500 came to the streets of Georgia Street Friday evening.

The free music festival and community celebration officially dropped the green flag to begin the race week countdown.

The event was led by some local musicians and racing stars. They came together in a musical tribute to celebrate the 100th Running of Indy 500. Local and national acts also performed throughout the night. Star radio personality Kristi Lee served as the host and emcee.

Some of the musicians who participated include John Mellencamp’s keyboardist Troye Kinnett and IndyCar driver Will Power.

The event took place on the West block of Georgia Street and on Pan Am Plaza in Downtown Indianapolis.

Indy 500 fans also got to experience an Indy 500 themed light show Friday evening. The light show will run several times each night on Georgia Street through the day of the race.
