Car crushed in semi’s wide turn

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) – A semi that was making a wide turn onto a downtown Fort Wayne street became entangled with a passenger car on Monday.

Police and medics were called around 1 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Monroe Street on a report of a crash. Responders arrived to find a car badly manged beneath a semi trailer.

Police spokesman Michael Joyner told 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WANE, that the semi driver was attempting to make a wide left turn from Washington onto Monroe and failed to see a passenger car in the left lane beside him. The car became stuck under the semi’s trailer and ultimately flipped as it pulled it onto Monroe Street.

The impact left the car twisted and its windshield shattered.

Joyner said the driver of the passenger car was hospitalized, but only to be treated for very minor cuts. The driver of the semi was not injured.
