New transit center will affect bus routes, commutes downtown

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The new downtown transit center will open June 26.

The Julia M. Carson transit center will be the hub for all IndyGo routes through downtown Indianapolis.

According to the release, service and schedule changes will be impacted when the center opens.

More than 700 bus stop sign changes will be made in Marion County.

The updates will include new and eliminated stops, stop relocations and route changes.

IndyGo is also beginning their Transit Ambassadors program on Monday. This program will help riders understand how the IndyGo changes will affect their commute.

“We understand that dramatic changes to routes will affect thousands of riders,” said IndyGo Director of Public Affairs, Bryan Luellen. “That is why we are communicating with our customers face-to-face at their bus stop.”

The transit center will have 19 bus bays, public restrooms, indoor waiting area, customer service, real time bus information, pass sales and free Wifi internet.
