Man spends hours a day standing outside stadium hoping for Patriots tryout

FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) – A local man has spent hours a day for the past month standing outside Gillette Stadium.

“I’m out here trying to get a tryout,” said Abiola Aborishade.

He has a sign taped to the guardrail that reads “Talented, hardworking athlete hoping for a chance.”

Since the end of April, with cleats by his side, Aborishade has spent seven hours a day, every day, patiently waiting outside the stadium for his chance.

“I believe I have what it takes to play at this level.”

He’s there before the players and coaches arrive and stays until they leave.

“I know a lot of them by the cars they drive,” admitted Aborishade.

The 23-year-old was born in Nigeria. He played football for three years at UMass Dartmouth, where he holds the school’s single-season catch record, hauling 84 passes his senior year.

“Football is football no matter what level you play, I think the speed does change, but um just, understanding the game is definitely a big part of it.”

And that determination may be paying off. Cornerback Malcolm Butler posted Aborishade’s photo on his Facebook page, saying in part, “This is the attitude you must have if you really want something.”

“I’m hoping that at some point they drive by and say OK we want to see what you can do.”
