Purdue to renovate EE building where student was killed

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Purdue University lab where a student was murdered will be renovated this summer and reopen next year.

Andrew Boldt died in 2014 when a classmate stabbed and shot him to death. The room, known as Lab 67, has been abandoned since then. But this summer, the lab and the basement of the Electrical Engineering building will be part of a renovation project.

By fall of 2017, the area will be transformed into a senior design project lab.

“Andrew Boldt was a teaching assistant. I mean, I think this will tie in to something he was very interested in, that we’re enhancing the facilities for all the students that are to come inside of electrical and computer engineering program,” said Robert Frosch, Associate Dean of Resource Planning and Management.

Construction will get underway this summer.

A memorial for Boldt will be placed inside the lab once renovations are complete.
