IMPD officer, teacher walking across the U.S. for veterans

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) —  An IMPD officer and a teacher are walking across the country to raise money for military families. Friday, they’ll be walking through Indianapolis and they’re asking the public to join them during the 30 mile stretch.

IMPD Officer David Roth and teacher Kevin Winton are raising money for Helping Hands for Freedom.  The money will help maintain a retreat home for military men, women and families.  Last year, Roth and Winton raised enough money to help build the house.

The two started their walk in Atlantic City, New Jersey back in April of this year and will end their trip in San Francisco.  As they walk nearly 3,091 miles from coast to coast, they hope to raise $3.6 million for HHFF.  You can join them for 30 miles today, all you have to do is show up at one of their pit stops.

• First stop: 7:30 a.m. – Walmart, 10617 E. Washington St. Meet in the Walmart parking lot.

• Second stop: 9 a.m. – State FOP office, 1427 E. Washington St. The group will walk through Downtown to to the Zoo.

• Third stop: 10 a.m. – Indianapolis Zoo. After a brief stop at the Zoo the walk will continue on US 40 – Washington Street west to Plainfield.
