INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Rick Mears is one of three men to be a winner at the Indianapolis for four times. He won the race in 1979,1984, 1988, and 1991.

Derek Daly talked with the driver of the original yellow submarine.

“Life just happened. Indy was way out of my league. I mean I never dreamed of going to Indy. That’s why I say the first win has its place, but they got better with each win. Because my first win came so quickly, I didn’t appreciate Indy I didn’t know what it meant. To win it, I didn’t know what it took to win it because we won it right away. I didn’t appreciate that first win quite as much,” said Mears.

Mears said today life is great

“It’s great. I mean you’ll never replace the driving. That cannot be done. I don’t care what I would do, you know, from the time I got out of the car, nothing will ever replace sitting in the seat of one of these cars,” Mears said.
