What you need to know if you’re heading to Carb Day

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Carb Day is officially here and with the new security measures fans are expected to have fun but also stay safe while at the track Friday.

Security and safety personnel is up 20 percent from last year. The first thing fans will notice heading to the track this morning is it will likely take longer to get down roads like 16th Street, Georgetown Road, and 30th Street.

If you’re bringing a cooler or bag it must be 18″x14’X14″ and if you bring one, expect longer wait times because security will be doing a more thorough search. If you’re not bringing any of those items, then you can go in the Express Lane.

At the gates Carb Day goers might also see police dogs and additional surveillance cameras.

Police cars with license plate readers will also patrol the grounds. With all of these new security features, fans are being advised to arrive at the track at least two hours earlier than they have in previous years.

If you’re heading to the track Friday here is what the schedule looks like:

  • Gates open at 8 a.m.
  • Historic race car laps start at 8 a.m.
  • The final Indy 500 ticket practice begins.
  • Concerts get underway at 3:30 p.m.
  • Journey takes the stage at 4:30 p.m.
  • Gates close at 6 p.m.
