Suspect hit in officer involved shooting in Delaware Co.

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One person was shot in an officer involved shooting in Delaware County Friday night.

According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a call about a female being held at gun point by Gregory Grider at a residence in the 7900 block of East Gloucester Road, outside the town of Selma.

Deputies were dispatched to the house just after 10:30 p.m. Friday.  After arriving on scene, two deputies approached the house and through the window were able to identify Grider.

Deputies then attempted to enter the house and that’s when Grider started to run towards the back of the house, ignoring deputies commands.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said it was at that time Grider showed a handgun and shot at deputies.  Fire was then returned by one of the deputies on scene, hitting Grider in the lower abdomen.

Deputies did not sustain any injuries in the shooting.  Also, the female being held inside the house was removed from the house unharmed.

Grider was transported to a nearby hospital, but his condition is unknown at this time.

The Indiana State Police are currently investigating the incident.
