Driver dies in wrong-way I-469 crash

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — One person is dead and two others are hurt after serious wrong-way crash in the northbound lanes of I-469 early Sunday morning.

The crash happened at about 2:45 a.m. on the overpass at the Maysville Road/SR 37 exit, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

The initial investigation shows that a car was heading southbound in the northbound lanes near mile marker 25. A vehicle going north saw the car and swerved out of the way, but another vehicle heading north hit the southbound car head-on.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was killed. The passenger was airlifted by Samaritan to a Fort Wayne hospital. The driver of the northbound vehicle was also taken to a hospital.

Officials are investigating was caused the crash and say toxicology results are pending.

Officers are directing northbound traffic off the Maysville Road/SR 37 exit as they investigate the crash. The Sheriff’s Department doesn’t know how long the area will be closed.
