Rossi to take home more than $2.5 million for Indy 500 win

SPEEDWAY (WISH) – The winner of the 2016 Indianapolis 500 is about to become a lot richer.

Alexander Rossi, who won the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 Sunday, will end up pocketing $2.54 million for his first place finish.

The American-born Rossi is the first is the first rookie to win the big race since Helio Castroneves won in 2001.

Rossi is the first American rookie to capture first place at the historic race since 1928.

Included in his multi-million dollar prize is $50,000 for rookie of the year honors.
