Man sentenced in 2013 crash that killed church van driver

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man has been sentenced for his role in a 2013 crash that killed the driver of a church van.

Brandon Collins received a 20 year sentence to be split between the Indiana Department of Correction, community corrections and probation.

Collins took a plea deal for failure to stop at an accident causing serious bodily injury and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, both class B felonies.

On Nov. 3, 2014, Collins was accused running a red light and striking a church van, causing it to flip. The driver, 51-year-old Edward Sadler, was killed. 13 children were taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. 18 people in total were in the van.

Police said Collins took off after the crash but was later caught by police and arrested.
