West Lafayette teen dies in White Co. crash, 3 others injured

WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Four teens from West Lafayette were involved in a crash early Tuesday in White County. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to the hospital.

Around 1:10 a.m., the White County Communications Center received a 911 call of a crash on County Road 700 South near County Road 450 West in White County.

Preliminary investigation revealed a car, driven by 17-year-old Benjamin Edwards of West Lafayette, Ind., was traveling west on CR 700 South when for an unknown reason the car left the roadway and rolled several times before hitting a metal utility pole.

Three passengers were in the car: Alexandra Deryn, Alexander Alge and Christian Burns; all age 17 and from West Lafayette.

Burns was pronounced dead at the scene.

Edwards and Alge were taken to St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette. Deryn was taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
