Woman injured after residential fire on southside

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman was slightly injured in a fire on the near southside of Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

Indianapolis Firefighters responded to a residential fire around 2 a.m. in the 1200 block of Illinois Street.

A woman in the home admitted to leaving a candle lit by a couch. That’s how the fire started.

She was slightly burned from the heat and was treated on the scene.

The smoke alarm woke the family up and the four people inside the residence got out safely along with a few dogs.

Firefighters estimate the damage at $25,000.
