Park renamed to honor Hoosier author
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A park on the city’s north side has a new name.
Broadway and 61st Street Park will now be known as Dan Wakefield Park.
Wakefield, who is a nationally recognized author and journalist from Indianapolis attended the ceremony Wednesday.
“After this day, I have no need for a memorial service,” Wakefield said. “Everybody can just go to the Red Key, play the jukebox, and have a drink. Thank you.”
Former Senator Richard Lugar and Mayor Joe Hogsett also attended the ceremony. Lugar attended Shortridge High School with Wakefield.
