Interfaith church service part of Circle City IN Pride

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Many are celebrating the LGBT community in the Indianapolis area by participating in the area’s pride week, called Circle City IN Pride.

On Sunday, dozens of Indy Pride supporters gathered at Life Journey Church on East 55th Place for the first official interfaith service.

People from all walks of life and spirituality joined the hour-long praise service. Songs were provided by Life Journey Gospel Ensemble and the Indianapolis Women’s Chorus.

Speakers included Rev. Jeff Miner of Life Journey Church, Rabbi Brett Krichiver of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, and Rev. Chesla Nickelson of Disciples of Christ Christian Church. The common theme of the service was to love one another.

Angie Alexander, former faith director for Freedom Indiana, said, “I think that it’s very important to have a service like this during the Pride Week because a lot of us LGBT people do have a spirituality  background. So this just brings in all of the many facades of what it is to be in our community.”

Alexander’s daughter, Patience, performed a spiritual dance during the interfaith service.

After the church service, Indy Pride supporters enjoyed a free community picnic at Garfield Park and then traded in their sneakers for skates and rolled around Roller Cave Family Fun Center for the annual Pride Skate event.

Pride events will continue through Sunday, June 12th. Click here to see a complete list of Circle City IN Pride events.
