IMPD swears in 33 new recruits
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department welcomed 33 new recruits Monday.
IMPD Chief Troy Riggs and Mayor Joe Hogsett were on hand for the swearing-in ceremony.
They say this class is diverse and reflective of the community it serves.
Of the 33 men and women, there are three Latinos, nine African-Americans and one Asian officer.
The new recruits are part of a plan to have 1,750 city officers employed within five years.
The recruit process consists of more than 1,000 hours of classroom and scenario-based training, as well as 20 weeks of on-the-job instruction.
