Broad Ripple smash-and-grabs result in stolen electronics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WISH) — Police are looking for a thief who broke two car windows and stole thousands of dollars in electronics in broad daylight.

The burglary happened outside a Broad Ripple restaurant Monday.

A victim who asked only to be identified as Tom said the thief struck just after 1 p.m. outside the Applebee’s on Broad Ripple Avenue.

Security footage from the restaurant shows a man pulling up in a tan Grand Prix, smashing two windows and rummaging through the cars before driving off.

Tom said he was inside eating lunch with a business associate whose car was also broken into.

“I’m feeling violated. Definitely frustrated,” Tom said. “I’m not sure who this individual is but it was obviously something that was pretty well planned.”

He said the thief got away with briefcases, personal checks, a Verizon hotspot, two phones and a computer. Tom said the items are worth about $10,000.

“I’m sure he’s doing it to other people,” he said.

Tom is taking his car to the shop tomorrow to replace his window.

Police are looking for a man and a tan Grand Prix. According to a police report, the car might have some damage.
