Bloomington police to begin using Naloxone

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Police in Bloomington were issued Naloxone Monday and have started training on the opiate antidote.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, Tuesday, officers administered Naloxone in two separate heroin overdoses.

Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the 1400 block of West Street in Bloomington for a heroin overdose.  Soon after, officers were called the 1600 block of North Willis Drive for a second heroin overdose.

According to BPD, Naloxone was successful in both instances.

Naloxone is used to help reverse the effects of a heroin overdose.

Police said following the completion of the training, all officers will be equipped with Naxolone.
