Community rallying behind family of dog killed with an arrow

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The central Indiana community is outraged over the brutal killing of a family dog.

Yogi, an 11-year-old Beagle, was shot and killed by someone using a bow and arrow.

It happened in the dog’s own east Indy neighborhood.

People across the area were horrified to hear about how this dog was killed.

And through social media, they are reaching out to help Yogi’s grieving family.

Lindsay Molnar was horrified to hear about Yogi’s death.

“Bow and arrow, I mean that’s unheard of,” Molnar said.

She lives in Greenwood with two dogs of her own.

“If you’re a horrible enough person to shoot a dog with a bow and arrow, I don’t know what kind of person you are, but you’re not my friend,” Molnar said.

She immediately wanted to help the family find the person responsible because Yogi reminded her of a childhood pet.

“I was sad you know, I had a beagle when I was growing up, so obviously that hits more to the heartstrings than any other dog,” Molnar said.

“It makes no sense that somebody could look at that poor animal that wouldn’t hurt a fly moseying along, and shoot him with an arrow, it’s just crazy,” Yogi’s owner Mike Reneau said.

Monday night Yogi’s owners hung up flyers offering a reward for information.

“I’d just like to get him some justice, find out who did this, if anyone has information we’d really appreciate it,” Reneau said.

Molnar wants to add her own money to increase that reward.

“If there’s a higher amount then sometimes people have more of a motivation to help people out,” Molnar said.

She helped the family create a Gofundme page, which she knows will help get donations.

Several other people have offered reward money as well since the story aired Tuesday.

“It was good to know that I wasn’t the only one that wanted to help out, seeing other people want to contribute,” Molnar said.
