Police: 19-year-old inmate dies after medical event

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – A 19-year-old inmate passed away Tuesday after he collapsed and had a medical event at Monroe County Correctional Center.

According to a release, Clinton Gilkie of Bloomington, was housed in the Recovery Dormitory at the center. The Recovery Dorm provides various programs for those focusing on substance abuse and life skills.

Jail staff said Gilkie had no disciplinary or misconduct issues during his time at the center.

He was arrested as a juvenile in September 2014 for armed robbery.

Police said a preliminary review of video from the Correctional Center shows no violence or event before Gilkie collapsed. Medical issues were found in the initial investigation.

The Monroe County Coroner and Sheriff Detectives are continuing to investigate the situation.
