PurpleStride takes steps to fight Pancreatic Cancer

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Hundreds will gather at IUPUI on Saturday, June 18th to take a step forward in the fight against pancreatic cancer.  The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s PurpleStride is a family friendly 5K timed run/walk to raise awareness for the cause.

“We’re raising awareness and saving lives,” stated Jeremy C. Parsons, spokesperson for the Indianapolis Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. “Every person who takes a step at PurpleStride is taking a step towards fighting this disease, raising more awareness, and helping to double the survival rate by 2020!!”

More patients will die from pancreatic cancer than breast cancer this year, moving pancreatic cancer from the fourth to the third-leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, according to the Cancer Statistics 2016 report, published by the American Cancer Society.

WISH-TV is a proud sponsor of PurpleStride which will begin at 8:00am  and include kid friendly activities and a “Purple Play Zone” in addition to the 5K run/walk.  24 Hour News 8’s Scott Sander will host the opening ceremony which will feature live entertainment.
