South side house fire kills dog

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A dog perished in a south side house fire Tuesday afternoon.

The fire occurred shortly before 3 p.m in the 200 block of West Gimber St.

Smoke and fire were seen coming from the rear of the house when IFD arrived on the scene. It took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The 77-year-old owner of the home was not injured, however, a Shih-Tzu named Teddy died as a result of the fire. The homeowner said he had no idea what started the blaze and stated that he was in the detached garage at the time of the fire.

Damage was estimated at $50,000. IMPD and IFD are investigating the fire’s cause.
