The Bicentennial spotlight shines on Corydon, Indiana

Indiana is shining a spotlight on Corydon this year, and they are responding with many great events! Check out Art at the Old Capitol, Bluegrass on the Square and the Birth of a State Exhibit…all coming soon to Indiana’s first State Capitol. Kim Blumenstock, Marketing Manager, Harrison Cty Visitors Bureau, gives us all the details!

Birth of a State: The Indiana Exhibit is a traveling exhibit expected to visit up to nine sites across Indiana at three week intervals to provide access to the public to see the state Constitution, state’s historic rifle, the first State Flag, Territorial Documents, early laws and judicial decisions, and other significant Indiana historical items from the Territorial period and the first years of Indiana’s statehood.

The exhibit will open to the public at the First State Office Building on June 10th at 10:00 am. and will close on Wed, June 29 at 12:00 noon with a closing program scheduled for 2:00 pm with Governor Pence to return Indiana’s State Constitution to Indianapolis. This is a free exhibit. Exhibit will be open: Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 am -4:00 pm Sundays 1:00 am – 5:00 pm.EVENTS COMING TO CORYDON, IN:

Galleries of the Square – 12 pop-up art galleries in businesses and historic locations around the downtown featuring Indiana artists

Chestnut Street Arts & Crafts Market – an open air market in the future home of Bicentennial park featuring fine arts and crafts in various mediums

Paint With Frank – a free community paint out at various downtown locations. All ages welcome – bring an easel, paint and a brush and put your spin on the historic sites. Completed canvases receive a goody bag featuring treats from Emery’s (one per artist), and have their art photographed with the Frank O’Bannon statue.

Kids Love the 200th – a community art project. Kids write what they love about Indiana on a ribbon that will be hung at the Farmers Market creating a colorful display. Free cotton candy.

Hayswood Theater will be presenting an original play about the Bicentennial

1816 Capitol Dancers will perform

Peacock Children’s Theater will perform

The Artful Stretch – a free and colorful yoga class to be offered in the square

The Bison-tennial Bison will be on display at the Farmers Market (Sheryl Scharf, artist)

Bicentennial Quilt – on display at the First State Office Building

Indiana Constitution – on display at the First State Office Building

“What Indiana Means to Me” Tulip Poplar will be on display and visitors can contribute a leaf.

Visitors will be able to pick up a souvenir map around town and have their name calligraphied on the back

All events are free and open to the public. Parking available at the fairgrounds.
