Kidney Walk with Firefighter Tim

She filled his boots well this morning on Indy Style, and all to help spread the word of a great cause! As part of this year’s Kidney Walk, Firefighter Tim and a few other firefighters will be walking in their gear to help raise awareness for the Kidney Foundation. Tim chats about the fact that getting out on weekends and walking in walks is a great way to stay active, fit and healthy. He says it’s great to include your kids and whole family, not only are you exercising but you are help raise awareness and money for great causes and teaching your kids about giving back!!

Who We Are: National Kidney Foundation of Indiana (NKFI)

• The National Kidney Foundation of Indiana (NKFI) is dedicated to preventing kidney disease, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney disease and increasing the availability of organs for transplantation.

• The NKFI conducts extensive public, patient and professional education, provides screenings to detect kidney disease early on, promotes organ donation and advocates for patients through legislative action.

• NKFI Programs including Kidney Camp, Kidney Check Health Screenings, Emergency Fund, Team Indiana to attend Transplant Games, Scholarship programs, education materials, patient advocacy

• Nearly 8,000 Hoosiers are on dialysis

• Approximately 1,300 Hoosiers are awaiting a life-saving kidney transplant

• 1 in 9 American adults (26 million) have chronic kidney disease and most don’t know it.

• 1 in 3 Americans over the age of 20 is at risk for developing kidney disease

• Kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death in the U.S.

What is the Kidney Walk Program?

• The Kidney Walk is an awareness and fundraising event held throughout the year in nearly 100 communities nationwide.

• More than 80,000 walkers forming more than 5,500 teams participated in 2015 to raise over $9 million for the NKF nationwide.

• The Kidney Walk raised more than $230,000 Statewide last year for our local Indiana communities

Local Walk Information

• The Indianapolis Kidney Walk is Saturday, June 11 at the Indianapolis Historical Society and Canal.

• 5K Walk along the Indianapolis Canal. Dog friendly and stroller friendly.

• Registration starts at 8:30 AM with the Walk at 9:30 AM

• Onsite Kidney Screening where participants can get their blood pressure taken and assess their risk for kidney disease. • Onsite will be Indianapolis Fire Engine in partnership with the Carmel Fire Department in honoring Carmel Fire Chief, David Haboush for his commitment as a caretaker.How You Can Get Involved?

• Form a Team – Corporate and Family teams join together and gather their friends and neighbors to come out and help them in their efforts.

• Request support from family and friends
