Islamic Society hosts Plainfield memorial to celebrate Ali

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — The Islamic Society of North America held a service in Plainfield to honor the life of Muhammad Ali.

Speakers and religious leaders celebrated the life of the boxing champion.

“For the American Muslim community, he’s seen as someone who really embodied what our values are,” Islamic Society of North America spokesperson Faryal Khatri said. “Oftentimes, it’s challenged, such as right now with the election cycle. But Muhammad Ali proves that you can be American and Muslim, and he was really proud of that; and that’s something that we really try to emphasize.”

The memorial was open to people of all faiths to come together and remember the life of Ali.
