California high school senior paralyzed after diving into pool

DANVILLE, Calif. (KRON) – A San Ramon Valley High School senior in California, Jake Javier, was seriously injured after diving into a swimming pool on Thursday afternoon.

Jake dove into a swimming pool at home in Danville and hit his head.

Jake was transported from the home in Danville located on Estates Drive to SRVHS’s baseball field around 5:00 p.m., where he was then airlifted to John Muir in Walnut Creek.

Jake broke his neck and had surgery that night to stabilize his spine, but he is paralyzed form the chest down and will likely not regain the use of his legs.

There was a vigil on SRVHS that Thursday night.

SRVHS is now finding ways to honor and celebrate Jake at Graduation and Grad Night.

Javier will be in the ICU for at least the next two weeks.

“It was heartbreaking to see the graduation setup in the background of him being loaded into the helicopter”, says the person who videotaped Jake being airlifted from his school to the hospital.

An email from SRVHS to parents wrote, “Jake is a special young man and this tragic accident has left our staff, students and families absolutely devastated.”

Donations can be made directly to support the Javier Family on Jake’s GoFundMe page.
