Orlando mass shooting survivor describes saving a stranger

(MEDIA GENERAL) – The deadly Orlando mass shooting is the worst in United States history. Joshua McGill says he was there for a reason.

McGill survived the shooting at Pulse Nightclub that killed at least 50 others and wounded 53 more people.

He described the mass shooting as a “very crazy and a traumatic experience.” He’s thankful to have survived and he thinks he may have been put there to help a complete stranger.

McGill said he hid under a car and found one of the victims that had been shot. He tied his shirt and the victim’s shirt over the wounds to try to stop the bleeding. Then, he tried to quietly get the man to the nearest officer.

“Words cannot and will not describe the feeling of that. Being covered in blood,” McGill wrote as he told his story on Facebook.

“The things I had to say to the guy and make promises that I didn’t know I would be able to keep,” McGill went on to write.

He said he only knew the guy’s first name. He doesn’t know what happened to the shooting victim because only family members get that information.

“I felt God put me at the club and made me stay behind to help a complete stranger,” McGill wrote. “For whatever reason that may be.”
