Avon native killed in Orlando massacre
AVON, Ind. (WISH) — A central Indiana native was one of 49 people killed in the Orlando mass shooting Sunday, a spokesperson for the university he attended said.
Darryl “DJ” Burt II was a native of Avon. He was an English major at Claflin University in South Carolina from 2005 to 2007, according to university spokesperson Bernita Cooper.
WTLV-TV reports Burt currently lived in Jacksonville, Florida.
Burt was involved in the community youth leadership group Junior Chamber International.
The organization posted condolences on its Facebook page Monday. “Today we have learned that one of our very own was lost… Darryl Roman Burt II, we remember you and we pray for you, your family and all those lost at Pulse,” JCI Florida wrote.
