Indy Eleven make franchise history
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Over the weekend, the Indy Eleven secured their first North American Soccer League title in front of nearly 10,000 fans at Carroll Stadium.
It’s an outcome owner Ersal Ozdemir had a hard time fathoming in just three seasons.
After an undefeated spring season, the team earned an automatic berth to the NASL’s four-team postseason tournament.
And as the spring champ, the Indy Eleven have earned the right to host a Semifinal Round game during the first weekend of November.
The Eleven averaged a little more than 8,800 fans a game this spring, tying Minnesota for top attendance in the league.
It’s an encouraging sign that soccer may be in Indy to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.
The Eleven now shift their attention to the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup – the oldest ongoing competition in America soccer that features teams from a variety of professional levels.
Indiana’s team heads to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Fire Wednesday – a game that will truly test this team’s toughness.
