Purdue adding hotel, residential space, research facilities to campus

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The plans for the west end of Purdue University include residential and retail space, a hotel with a conference center and research facilities.

The Purdue Research Foundation is partnering with Browning Investments LLC to develop 450 acres. It will be known as the Innovation District. It’s located in the area of the intersection of U.S. 231 and State Road 26.

It’s a $1 billion development that will take place over the next 15 to 20 years.

University president Mitch Daniels said it will be a space where people can work, play and live.

“If we’re right about that, it will certainly be good for attracting students and faculty to Purdue and we hope to attaract more businesses like, GE and Rolls Royce and others, to the Purdue periphery with jobs that will be good for the entire community,” said Daniels.

Daniels believes the State Street Project will help enhance the district.

Development could begin as early as this year.
