3 tips to get over your fear of public speaking

Having to speak in front of a large crowd can sometimes be a daunting, often overwhelming thought for many people. But with just a few helpful tips, success is closer than you think. Andy Richardson, Director of FreeSpeakers.org, shares a few go-to practices and explains how a new pro bono speakers service in Indy is giving back and changing lives.

1.) Arrive early and mingle with attendees

2.) Be a Super Hero – Power Stance

3.) Take deep breaths and remember to pause

A new pro bono speakers service has launched in Indy. Basically anyone can sign up to be a speaker and any organization, club, etc. can request a speaker free of charge. This originally launched in Chicago and was highly successful. In Indy, there are 22 founding speakers that cover topics ranging from Health & Wellness to Educational to Business to Financial and Self Improvement.

FreeSpeakers.org is a pro-bono speaker’s bureau where more than 22 Indy speakers have already signed up to offer free talks to organization with little or no budget. Speakers and organizations who can request speakers are from all over central Indiana. We’ve already had several requests from organizations for speakers. This started in Chicago and is highly successful there, so they’ve brought it to our area. Here’s more info:

This pro bono speaker’s bureau is a new resource in Indianapolis and its suburbs for groups and organizations that need speakers. The new bureau has more 22 local speakers with more than 35 different topics available. All speakers present programs at no cost and is 100 percent free to groups that have limited (or no) budgets.

Groups include Chambers of Commerce, libraries, Rotary and Kiwanis groups, special interest clubs, church groups, retirement communities, women’s clubs, men’s clubs, etc.

There is no charge to any group. Ever. Not from the speaker and not from the bureau. What’s in it for the speakers? Certainly not money. They are motivated by the opportunity to teach, hone speaking skills, make contacts, convey a message, give back to the community and frequently, all of the above.

Speakers have a grand opportunity to hone speaking skills, educate the public, and maybe most important, speakers are giving something of themselves for the greater good.
