IMPD makes quick arrest after fatal shooting on east side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – IMPD arrested a suspect after a shooting on the east side of Indianapolis Thursday morning.

Police said they were sent to the 3600 block of Celtic Drive after reports of a person shot around 11 a.m.

Officers said they found 34-year-old Andre Phillips suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Phillips was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead several hours later.

Detectives said Phillip was last seen alive with 19-year-old Charles Mitchell. Police interviewed Mitchell, and after consultation with the Marin County Prosecutor’s Office Mitchell was arrested for in connection to the death of Phillips.

Mitchell was preliminary arrested for one count of murder.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office  will review this case for a charging decision.
