Crawfordsville man arrested for armed robbery at ATM

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Crawfordsville man has been arrested after an armed robbery Sunday morning.

Crawfordsville police said it happened just before 7 a.m., at the drive-thru of the PNC Bank on 101 West Main Street.

Det. Bob Rivers said the victim told police he pulled up to the ATM. After punching in his code, the machine began dispensing his money.

That’s when the victim said 28-year-old Jordan Oakes of Crawfordsville pulled up with a gun.

After seeing the weapon, the victim hit the gas pedal and took off.

Oakes was seen running toward Walnut Street and got into a white vehicle thought to be a Trailblazer.

After turning onto Walnut Street and then turning back onto Main Street, the victim said the money was not in the machine and the suspect was gone. He then called the police department.

Rivers said an immediate search of the area did not turn up the suspect or the vehicle. However, within two hours, the vehicle was spotted in a residential area within five blocks of the original crime scene.

Oakes was seen getting into the vehicle and was ready to leave when police stopped him.

He has been preliminarily charged with felony counts of armed robbery, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of syringe. He was also preliminarily charged with possession of paraphernalia.

Oakes is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with more information is asked to call Det. Rivers at 362-3762, ext. 215.
